Given the film's age, it's a strange time to release a game based around the dragons of How To Train Your Dragon. Without the pressure of being released around the film (or its forthcoming sequel), it turns out that Dreamworks Dragons is a fun and enjoyable logic puzzle game, even if it does start out a little too easy for adults.

Players take the role of a dragon that has to herd sheep. Unlikely, yes, but it forms the basis of some increasingly complex puzzles. Each level introduces new skills that the dragon possesses. These start out simple with just a basic roar that encourages the sheep to move in a particular direction. Then a fire breathing move emerges, destroying trees in the way (but also roasting the poor sheep alive if they are too close). It all leads up to things like firing catapults and moving boulders around the level.

Early stages are very easy. Clearly designed for a younger audience, Dreamworks Dragons might feel a little too simple at first. That's not to say I didn't have fun playing but it did take a while to feel truly challenged by anything within. Once I reached the midway stage, things got pretty intricate and it was satisfying to finally 3 star some stages and complete them in under the par number of moves.

The cutesy and well animated 2D look of the characters adds to the appeal, looking crisp on both iPhone or iPad screens and there are some great subtle touches to notice.

This all lends itself to being the kind of game that players will enjoy alongside the family, or when they just don't want to be taxed too much. Sure, the later levels will test them more so but the journey there is what we pay for, really.
