Bang & Olufsen Beoplay A3 iPad Speaker: A Pricey Dock for Audiophiles

Bang & Olufsen's Beoplay A3 iPad Speaker amps up the audio in a pyramid-shaped dock with three .5-inch tweeters and a two-inch woofer. It's got signature B&O style, and carries the signature B&O price tag along with it.

The iPad continues to wow consumers as the top tablet on the market year after year. But for all its awesome -- the Retina display, its app library and dead-simple UI, to name just a few selling points -- it still suffers one Achilles' heel: a teeny, tiny speaker system.

Luckily, the shortcoming is easily addressed. Especially if you've got a fat wad of dough lying around. Bang & Olufsen's Beoplay A3 iPad Speaker amps up the iPad's audio via a 2.75-pound, pyramid-shaped dock with three 0.5-inch tweeters and a 2-inch woofer.

But, at a whopping $730, it will cost you more than many iPad versions themselves.

Depending on the orientation of your iPad, the Beoplay A3 activates different speakers to deliver an optimal stereo sound experience. The unit has a frequency range of 60Hz to 15kHz.

The iPad stand is made of polycarbonate ABS plastic, and has an aluminum frame. It's designed to fit both the first-gen and second-gen iPad thanks to rubber collars that offer a snug fit. We'd hazard that the third-generation iPad also fits, as it's only negligibly thicker than the iPad 2.

The Beoplay A3 isn't available for purchase just yet, but you can be notified when it goes on sale if it's something you'd like gracing your palatial, rich-person's mansion.
