Dell Says XPS 13 Ultrabook Selling Well Above Expectations

This article is more than 10 years old.

Dell's new XPS 13 ultrabook is selling well above the company's own expectations, the company told CNET.

"We can't build enough of them at the moment," Sam Burd, vice president of Dell's Consumer and SMB product group, said, according to the story. The $999 laptop was announced in January. Burd said sales were nearly 3x expected demand for the laptop, which is thin and light - 0.71 inches, 3 pounds - and aimed at taking on Apple's MacBook Air.

Driven by microprocessor maker Intel, Dell and other PC makers are making a big push into ultrabooks, which feature rapid boot up, thin designs and in some cases flash memory based solid-state drives rather than traditional disk drives.

Dell this morning is down 3 cents at $16.41.
