A Half-Pound of iPhone Dock

Maybe Apple’s plastic iPhone stand doesn’t seem a substantial enough vessel for your beloved 4S. Don’t worry, Element Case has you covered.

The case maker has built the Vapor Dock for the iPhone, a dense half-pound of machined aluminum anodized in silver or black.

The dock has a 30-pin cable secured to it, with a storage compartment for excess cable underneath. On my demonstration model the connector was a bit loose, but worked just fine. Another quibble – who put a white cable on a handsome black matte dock?

The Vapor has two ports in the front to redirect and amplify sound from your phone’s bottom facing speakers. The ports really do work to make the phone’s sound louder, but they also make it sound tinnier. It’s useful for speakerphone calls, but I wouldn’t count on this to replace your music system.

The dock has a little ultra-suede line shelf behind the recess for the phone so your earphones can share the half-pound of aluminum glory.

Included with the dock is a set of shims so it can accommodate an iPhone 4, 3G, 3GS, iPod Classic or Mini, first- through fifth-generation iPod Nano, or firs-t or second-generation iPod Touch.

As you might expect, the weighty base comes with an equally heavy price, $120 list.
