Getting fit doesn't require much more than determination and some motivation. That's not to say that there aren't numerous tools to aid progress and a sense of accomplishment. One such tool is Pushing Weight.

The app isn't aimed at newbies to fitness workouts and it doesn't spend time educating its users on how to get the most out of their workout. Instead, it assumes a certain amount of confidence and knowledge, focusing on making it extremely easy to enter data about each activity, and then visualizing that information.

Immediately, it's clear that the app is a very pleasing one to look at. There's an urban feel to the backdrop of each section, with black and gray dominating the rest of the color palette. It sounds drab but its implementation makes for a classy looking app.

Entering information is simple. Under each day's entry, numerous categories are listed covering all the major body areas. Legs, back, chest, arms, shoulders, abs and cardio are all there with the option of adding other categories if the user so wishes. Tap on a section and popular exercises are offered from simple lunges to V-ups. Not everything is there but, again, new activities can be added to fit the user's needs. All exercises can also be re-organized or even deleted, so the user can adapt the app to their needs.

In each case, it's similarly simple to add sets according to weights and repetitions. I found it much faster to use Pushing Weight to enter my workout than stick with my conventional method of entering data into Notes.

The fun part comes from checking out the progress via the Calendar and Graphs section. The Calendar shows how much has been done across a month. Work hard and it's pretty satisfying to gaze at. The Graphs section demonstrates how things are working out, whether rep numbers are steadily increasingly or how weights have changed, or just simply how many sessions are completed each week.

Put together and this all makes for a well rounded app for the regular workout fanatic. It's quick and simple to get to grips with. Pushing Weight isn't aimed at those who need advice or guidance. For weights fans however, it's a great solution to how best to track exercise.
