Other World Computing details DYI SSD upgrade kit for 27-inch iMacs


SSD performance is a great upgrade, but unfortunately Apple's build-to-order option is quite pricy for not even the fastest drives out there. Other World Computing has had a turnkey service for installing SSD drives as an after-marketing solution on 27-inch iMacs. The service requires users to send in their iMac to OWC. The installation is a complicated process, but OWC has now released a DIY kit with a great instructional video. The task requires a delicate hand and involves a number of steps, but doable for the determined.

The kit is designed for the 27-inch 2011 iMacs which have an available SATA connector and mounting spot. The kit itself costs $44.99 and buyers can pick up their SSD of choice.
