PLANO, Texas (AP) -- Computer maker Dell Inc. said Thursday that it is buying software company Make Technologies Inc., its third acquisition this week.

Make Technologies, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, provides software and services that modernize traditional applications for use on modern, cloud-based systems. The company says its services cut the cost, risk and time required to re-engineer applications.

Dell said the acquisition will modernize its array of applications it offers business customers. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"The combination of Make Technologies and Dell provides the market with a single vendor solution for any modernization activity and is an exciting step in expanding growth opportunities for our core application modernization software and services," Bill Bergen, president and CEO Make Technologies, said in a statement. "Together, with Dell's global reach, scale and reputation for customer support, Make's methodology and tools will become even more accessible to more customers struggling with the dilemma that surrounds legacy environments."

Dell, based in Plano, Texas, has acquired a number of companies recently as part of a push to expand in higher-profit business services. It announced plans Monday to buy Wyse Technology Inc. On Tuesday it said it would acquire cloud computing technology company Clerity Solutions. That's on top of the plans it announced earlier this month to buy network security provider SonicWall Inc. and its announcement in February that it agreed to buy software maker AppAssure Software Inc.

Shares of Dell rose 7 cents to $16.53 in midmorning trading. Its shares have traded between $13.29 and $18.36 in the past 52 weeks.
