Apple Hates Stifler: American Pie App Rejected By App Store [Exclusive]

The new American Pie film American Reunion is set to open in theaters this Friday, April 6th. To help promote the movie, Universal Pictures thought it’d be a great idea to release an app called Stifler’s App Suite featuring a soundboard of all the various raunchy sayings of  the series’ infamous support character, Stifler.

Looks like Stifler was too hot for the App Store to handle, though. An anonymous source has exclusively told Cult of Mac that Apple’s App Store review team has rejected the app due to foul language. The rejection has forced the Universal team to resubmit a watered-down version of the app. Stifler’s hardly even himself anymore.

Here are some of the sayings that Apple thought were too crude for the App Store. We’ll let you decide for yourselves if the foul content that was found in the app warranted it to be rejected by Apple:

  • “suck me beautiful”,
  • “M-I-L-F, mom I’d like to F**k”
  •  “This one time at band camp, I stuck a flute in my p***y”,
  • “Eat S**t”

That Apple would pass on an app featuring language like this isn’t surprising: there’s tons of precedent for it. What is more surprising, however, is that similar uncensored soundboards released by indie developers have been allowed onto the App Store without raising a single eyebrow, including this soundboard featuring quotes from Eugene Levy’s character, which includes references to “masturbation” and other NSFW content.

Furthermore, the American Pie movies are also available on iTunes with an R rating. Too raunchy for kids to potentially buy on the App Store… but not from the iTunes Movie Store?

On its part, Universal openly admitted that the app contained R-rated content, according to our source. Many R-rated apps exist on the App Store, but they are usually given a 17+ age rating (for example: the official Playboy app). It’s not clear why Apple did not rate Stifler’s App Suite accordingly, but instead rejected the app outright.

In the meantime, the watered-down version of the app, which contains less objectionable PG-13 rated content, has been resubmitted to Apple for approval. We’ve reached out to Apple for comment.
