Roadkill Chicken probably isn’t a game to buy for children. The main premise of the game deals with poking a dead, bloody chicken to earn coins. While Roadkill Chicken is definitely a humorous and slightly addicting game, do NOT buy this for kids.

To play Roadkill Chicken players start by just taping anywhere on the screen above the crosswalk. Taping the screen has the live chicken poke the dead chicken, Larry. Poking Larry makes him, for some reason, shoot a glass ball with a coin out of “Larry’s Butt” (the game’s words, not mine). When the ball stops moving, it turns into an even larger, random-sized ball with a coin in it.

The player continues to shoot glass coin balls out of Larry’s Butt in order to break the glass balls they’ve already fired. Three hits breaks a ball. Breaking balls racks up a score. Multipliers and special glass balls are gained by doing special tasks like hitting multiple balls with the same ball or destroying multiple balls with one ball. Extra lives are obtained by reaching a certain number of points.

It is quite satisfying to get the special balls like TNT or the grenade. And it’s especially fun to get the nuke ball and blow up the entire screen because five balls have just been destroyed with one ball.

The ads at the top of the game are incredibly annoying. But it is a free game. $0.99 will unlock the full version with no ads, access to Game Center, and free updates. The music is also a bit annoying because it’s incredibly repetitive. It plays on about a 30-45 second loop. At first it’s sort of upbeat, light, and circusy (wordcheck tells me that’s a word). But it gets old FAST.

For a free game, Roadkill Chicken is a quality, though a bit disgusting and disturbing, game. It’s worth checking out. And if the ads are annoying enough, the paid version may even be worth $0.99.
