Ashton Kutcher / Steve Jobs

Yes, we're posting this news on April 1st, and yes it sounds like a big joke, but according to Variety's Jeff Sneider, it's not - it's true. "I will be posting a MAJOR story today that will seem like an April Fool's joke but isn't." Variety is reporting that Ashton Kutcher has been cast as a young Steve Jobs in an indie biopic developing, titled just Jobs. Set to direct is Joshua Michael Stern, of Swing Vote and Carnaval, from a screenplay written by Matt Whiteley. The deal for Jobs' biography came quickly after his passing last year, so it's no surprise to see something like this already moving quickly, though it is an indie project. Read on!

The project is being repped by CAA, who is selling domestic distribution rights, and will definitely start a bidding war for this. Jobs, the film, will chronicle Steve Jobs from "wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time." Five Star Institute's Mark Hulme is financing and producing. Apparently it's coming together very quick, as they're already schedule to start shooting this May, while Kutcher is on hiatus from "Two and a Half Men". Get ready to see the indie Steve Jobs biopic before the Hollywood one. But of course, I want to see his story no matter who makes it.

To be frank, I've seen Kutcher in a few of his indie roles and he's actually a great actor, he can do a good job. Plus, he really does look like a young Steve Jobs, and would be the perfect fit to play the character. I'm intrigued by the indie nature of this and just how much they'll be able to pull off, including exactly how much of Jobs' full story they'll follow. Will it be focused on Apple? Will it be focused on Jobs the man, and his early days, similar to Pirates of Silicon Valley (Noah Wyle played Jobs in that film). Only time will tell how this turns out, but apparently it's true - Kutcher will be Jobs in Jobs. We'll definitely keep you updated.

I'm glad this isn't a joke. I really like Kutcher I think he'll do great plus he looks almost identical to him.

LOL. Maybe they'll get Rob Schnieder to play Bill Gates too.

If Chris Farley was alive he'd be Steve Ballmer.

That's nice and all, and I also hope that Kutcher can be a great Steve Jobs, but I don't know since the movie isn't being directed or written by people that I never even heard of. But I am still willing to give it a try once I see some footage

i thought aaron sorkin was penning a script for a Jobs biopic what happened to that? Or is this gonna be another 'Infamous'/'Capote' situation where they release 2 f**kin movies in the same year about the same damn story.

There are 2 scripts out there. This one, and the Sorkin script. So yes: 2 movies.

April Fools joke or not, this seems to be coming too soon... Mr. Jobs only passed away this past October...

I hope they're getting Stanley Tucci at some point, if they make a film about his last days or something..

I'm not a HUGE Ashton Kutcher fan, but I seriously feel like the guy will do a great job with this. Not only does he look identical to a young Steve Jobs, but he's made his money off of playing a hippie (Kelso in 'That 70s Show') and young Jobs was more or less a hippie. He'll do fine. Despite the accusations, the guy actually has some decent acting chops.

Have always felt kutcher could take better more serious roles. I don't know if he just prefers the soft comedy stuff or it comfort zone and a fear of failure, or lack of opportunity, but I'm glad to see this. More of the same I hope
