How Do You Say Tim Cook In Mandarin Chinese?

This article is more than 10 years old.

I received a comment from a reader yesterday who jokingly suggested that Apple CEO Tim Cook and other international tech heavyweights visiting China this week were here in search of a good Chinese name for themselves.

In fact, Cook and the others already have transliterated names in Chinese that are used in the local media. They don’t look too much like the English-language originals when you spell them out again using China’s system for romanizing the pronunciation of Chinese characters.  Have a look:

Tim Cook: Dimu Kuke  (蒂姆库克)

Mark Zuckerberg: Make Zhakeboge (马克扎克伯格)

John Chambers: Yuehan Qianbosi (约翰钱伯斯)

Stephen Elop: Shidifen Ailuopu (史蒂芬埃洛普)
