App Publishers Explore html5 vs Apple at The Open Mobile Summit

Open Mobile Summit 2012

LONDON--()--Apple’s dominance of the mobile apps ecosystem could be called into question in the next few years, if the rising tide of publishers investing in html5 apps is anything to go by.

Top execs from the Financial Times and the New York Times through to Google’s YouTube and Disney- owned game developer Rocket Pack will be speaking on the subject at the mobile industry’s annual gathering, The Open Mobile Summit in London this May 29-30.

“There’s a growing sense in the market that Apple’s control of the primary means of distributing and monetizing apps – the app store – needs to be challenged,” said Open Mobile Summit organiser, Robin Batt. “Many industry players are getting tired of Apple defining their business model – and in an open mobile web environment, they can sell direct.”

Indeed, it’s not only the app publishers and content owners that are looking for alternatives, with Internet industry power players like Facebook now backing html5 and open web standards aggressively.

The viability of html5 as a publishing platform, as well as the changing business dynamics of the mobile Internet as this platform matures, is one of the main themes for discussion at this year’s Open Mobile Summit.

Now in its fourth year The Open Mobile Summit is widely recognised as the thought leading event for CEOs and senior strategists in the converging mobile, Internet and media space.

The Open Mobile Summit is taking place 29-30 May at the Victoria Park Plaza hotel in London. For more information, and to register to attend, please visit: http://www.openmobilesummit.com.
