In its first three days of availability, Apple’s new iPad sold an incredible 3 million devices, so it’s no surprise to us that it already accounts for 6.6% of all Apple tablets accessing the internet. That’s according to a new report from mobile ad network Chitika Insights, which monitored internet usage over a 24-hour period.
The new iPad has steadily increased its share since it was released on March 16, with share fluctuating between 5% on the day after its launch to a high of 9.9% on Tuesday. Peak usage time is between 6 a.m. and 9.a.m. UTC, 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. EDT, and 10 p.m. to midnight PST, according to the results.
Nevada appears to boast the highest concentration of new iPads, with 7.2% of the share; followed by California, Connecticut, and Washington, which boast 6.9%, 6.7%, and 6.6% respectively. Arkansas was the lowest state with a 4% share, but there were 17 others that didn’t have a sample size large enough to provide an accurate reading.
Although Chitika Insights’ results should not be mistaken for iPad adoption rates, it’s pretty clear Apple’s latest tablet is already shaping up to become a huge hit.
