SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Cisco Systems Inc. said Monday that it has completed its $271 million acquisition of Lightwire Inc., which the networking gear giant bought to help it better deliver high-speed network support for data centers and other customers.

Lightwire, based in Allentown, Penn., is a privately held company that develops optical technology for networking applications.

Cisco announced the deal in February.

Shares of the San Jose, Calif.-based company rose 5 cents to $20.08 in late morning trading.
