While Google is speculated to release its own voice assistant for Android smartphones, [1] the search giant would be expecting another swarm of patent problems from Apple, which managed to sell over 37 million Siri-enabled iPhones in the last three months of 2011. [2]
Google’s own “assistant,” even though it would be getting a late start, may have more integration advantages over Apple.
Voice Assistant May Follow The Android Way
Unlike Apple’s exclusivity, Google’s voice assistant is expected to be available for free to developers, much like its Android mobile OS. If this happens, voice-enabled search could move on from being more of a “fun” product to an innovative tool, as it opens up new avenues for developers to construct novel apps for mobile devices.
However, with Apple taking shots at Android at every available opportunity, Google’s voice assistant can expect similar treatment as soon as it launches.
