Art of Coffee ($2.99) by Skunkscape is the app to have if you ever wanted to learn about the awesome skill that is coffee art.

I love coffee as much as the next person, but I have never attempted coffee art. I love when I go to a coffee shop and get some pretty picture on my latte that makes it picture worthy, though. How about learning the ways of a true barista though? Well, now you can, thanks to Skunkscape.

When you open up the app, you’re presented with a screen saying “Coffee Basics.” This is the first section of the app, with three more that you can navigate between on the bottom menubar. The other sections include: Essential Art, Advanced Art, and Troubleshooting.

If you’re really new to the coffee thing, then the Basics is a great place to start. There’s a Getting Started guide, and it will even teach you the basics of coffee, including: espresso, milk, free pour, etching, and more. Tapping on these will show you a basic explanation of the element.

Already familiar with the basics? Then start with the Essential Art, or Advanced Art if you’re up for a real challenge! The difference between Essentials and Advanced is that there is a combination of techniques involved with the Advanced images.

In either Art view, you’ll get the name of the artwork, along with an icon that shows you what it basically looks like. Once you find one you want to try, just tap on it. You’ll see how the final product should look.

Daring enough to try it yourself? Just swipe on the photo to view the steps to recreate it, one at a time. You’ll also get directions with the photo to make sure that you are doing it correctly.

Having some trouble with your own coffee art? Then you’ll want to go to the Troubleshooting area. Here, you will find common problems with latte art, including: bad lines, rosetta leaf problems, full cups, lop-sided art, and more. You’ll see the areas of mistakes and how to correct them.

The app currently offers over 30 designs to decorate your coffee with, which is plenty to learn and master. The only bad things about the app are the small font, inability to rotate the orientation, and it can be hard to see the small text against the coffee motif.

However, if you are one that is interested in learning the ways of coffee art, then this is a great app to help you accomplish that.
