HTC Admits Apple Was Right, LTE Android Phones Are A Total Joke

Despite the fact that not only are current LTE chips too power-hungry and huge to fit into the iPhone without huge design and performance trade-offs, and the fact that the vast majority of the country has no 4G coverage, a lot of Apple’s Android competitors have been pointing their fingers and laughing at the iPhone over the last year for not embracing LTE.

Well, who’s laughing now? In response to profits that dropped 26% this quarter, HTC had admitted that making an early transition to LTE was a “big mistake.”

While HTC mostly blamed dipping profits on increased competition from Apple and Samsung, Chief Financial Officer Winston Yung also acknowledged that adopting LTE early and making thick, short-lived devices just for the sake of having 4G was a huge mistake. Yung then quickly clarified that the next-generation of devices would fix this problem.

So there you go. Apple’s decision to hold off on LTE wasn’t just correct, but even the competition is now acknowledging that the earliest possible timeline to deliver decent LTE devices is — surprise! — 2012, the year of the LTE iPhone 5.
