Apple fined in Xicheng

2012-02-06 11:24 Global Times     Web Editor: Zang Kejia comment

Apple may face a 2.4 billion yuan fine for selling iPads in Xicheng district, the Beijing Evening News reported.

The district commerce administration is prosecuting Apple in an intellectual property rights violation case filed by computer technology company Proview Technology (Shenzhen) in 2011.

Hong Kong-based Proview International Holdings Limited's Taipei branch owned "iPad" but sold the name to Apple in 2009. However, its Shenzhen branch is arguing the transaction did not include rights to use the name on the Chinese mainland.
