Apple’s New Retail VP: John Browett

Apple officially has a new senior vice president of Retail as of Tuesday with the company’s announcement that it hired Dixons Retail CEO John Browett to fill the slot. Ron Johnson had held the position until he left to be CEO of JC Penney.

Dixons Retail is a european tech retailer company, and Mr. Browett served as CEO since 2007. His career has also included time in various executive positions at Tesco, and as a retail and consumer goods consultant at Boston Consulting Group.

Dixons is akin to Best Buy in the U.S. and offers consumer electronics along with other household items like washing machines and vacuum cleaners.

Apple hired the recruiting firm Egon Zehnder International to find Mr. Johnson’s replacement in August 2011 after announcing he was leaving to work for JC Penney. He officially left in November, leaving Apple without a retail VP until now.

Mr. Brower will report directly to Apple CEO Tim Cook and will be responsible for the company’s retail strategy and store expansion plans worldwide.
