Having obtained the licenses necessary to launch its new iPhone 4S on the China Telecom network earlier this month, it was only a matter of time before Apple’s deal with a second Chinese carrier came to fruition. China Telecom subsidiary Beijing Telecom has now issued a press release confirming that it will launch the iPhone 4S from as early as the end of February.
A new version of the company’s latest iPhone has been built to support China Telecom’s unique “CDMA-2000” network, and it will be available to those in China either by the end of February, or during early March, with the carrier having already started “preparatory work” on its launch.
China Telecom currently enjoys over 36.3 million 3G subscribers — 14.9 million less than China’s biggest network, China Mobile, which is yet to strike a deal with Apple for its popular smartphone.
The announcement did not provide any word on pricing, but this is expected to be set in-line with packages offered by China Unicom, which currently has exclusivity on the iPhone in China.
