Remiix Minus is a well thought out, easy to use "interactive record" that lets the user combine, transform and re-arrange ten top tracks from the Minus catalogue, then upload creations to various social networking sites. All in all it's a very good app for those who like to dabble in mixing.

Based in Berlin, and with a growing catalog and roster, Minus is home to both "underground club hits" and "artistic vanguards within electronic music." The full Remiix Minus track list is as follows: Matador - Kingswing, Click Box - Berlin Shades, Hobo - Symptom, Marc Houle - Techno Vocals, Heartthrob - Baby Kate, Marc Houle - Borrowed Gear
Magda - Your Love Attack, Gaiser - Elastrik, Barem - Nothing, Ambivalent - R U OK?

The app starts with four menus (labelled 1 to 4, funnily enough) that have all been assigned the same song; Kingswing, for example. These menus each contain different musical sound bites relating to the overarching song. By scrolling through the playlist the user can easily introduce a new song to any of the menus, meaning there could be the drums from Kingswing playing alongside the voice samples from R U OK?

The user is positively encouraged to be creative, and due to the ease of use even after an hour of trying I failed to make a track that sounded terrible. As well as changing tracks, the user can also fiddle with the BPM, VOL, EQ, RVB and DLY. The user interface is superb, and rather than have the user trawling through sub-menus, Remiix Minus positions everything on one screen and allows the user to quickly scroll through different options. It looks lovely too, in a minimalistic way.

All this would be for nothing if created tracks couldn’t be stored and uploaded. Luckily Remiix Minus comes with the option to record tracks and upload them to Soundcloud. This is a great feature for those confident about their creations, and of course once tracks are on Soundcloud it is very easy to share them on sites such as Facebook and Twitter.

I had an absolute blast using Remiix Minus. The music is great, the interface works well and it’s so easy to use. Those who have experience in mixing may find the whole thing too easy, but for newcomers who just want to create something that sounds good, this is highly recommended.
