Launch Center is just about as close as you can get to automating your iPhone. It's an app that gathers many shortcuts together, mashes them up with Notification Center and timers and presents them all in a very slick and pretty interface.
You can set shortcuts for common tasks, like calling your mother or switching on the iPhone's flashlight or sending a Tweet. You can even add custom URLs to open other apps, take you to web sites or directly access settings. Stick the app in your dock and you'll have two-tap access to any of these things.
But v1.1 adds in notifications. Now you can have the app pop up a reminder at a certain time and date (you can also create recurring events). The notification pops up on screen at the preset time and all you have to do to trigger it is tap the message.
Thus you can call Mom every Sunday evening, or even set your phone to go into airplane mode every night at bedtime. It won't perform the actions without you confirming them, but it's pretty close.
Launch Center will also work on the iPad (pixel-doubled, sadly) and the iPod Touch, but you can't make calls, send messages or use the flashlight. It costs one measly dollar and is available now.
