That iPhone 4S really sucks, huh? Not only did Apple sell 37 million iPhones in the last three months, the "disappointing" iPhone also outsold Android at Verizon.

To be clear, Verizon sold more iPhone 4S units that all Android handsets combined. The figures, revealed at Verizon's own earnings report yesterday, show that the carrier shifted 7.7 million smartphones in total, 4.2 million of which were iPhones.

This seems to confirm the theory that Android used to sell so well on Verizon just because there was no iPhone available. It also looks likely that many (most?) Android buyers aren't even aware they're getting a smartphone. They just do what disinterested phone buyers have always done: walk into the store of their chosen carrier and pick the cheapest phone that looks half decent.

Either way, it seems pretty clear that the iPhone 4S is doing OK, despite being such a huge mistake for Apple.
