How To: Make The Dashboard Translucent Again In Mac OS X Lion

If you’re like me, you would use certain parts of the dashboard whilst working in certain documents. For example: when I want to make a calculation whist doing my weekly accounts in numbers, I will often jump into the Dashboard to use the calculator contained within. What was good about that was I would be able to see the figures in my numbers document and make calculations accordingly.

The new view of Dashboard in Mac OS X Lion restricts my view as it now has a solid background as shown below:

The good news is that you can change this background and return the Dashboard to the way it was presented previously in Snow Leopard.

Simply open the System Preferences and then select the Mission Control area as highlighted below:

Then you will be presented with the following window of options:

You will notice in the above image that I have highlighted ‘Show Dashboard As A Space’. By default this will be selected. Simply deselect this option as shown above and you will notice that dashboard will cease to be a space accessed by swiping to the left and it will also be removed from the Mission Control overview.

If you press the F4 key on your keyboard you will notice that the Dashboard will appear as previous presented in Snow Leopard as shown below:
