iRig Pre gets official, connects XLR mic to your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

IK Multimedia this week formally announced the iRig Pre. Essentially it's a pre amp for any microphone using an XLR cable for connecting to an iOS device. This allows users to plug in their favorite microphone, rather than relying on microphones specifically designed for mobile use. The iRig Pre connects to your iOS device's 1/8-inch headset jack.

The iRig Pre has a 9-volt battery to provide phantom power. The battery promises up to 15 hours of use. Users can download two different IK Multimedia apps iRig Recorder and VocalLive. It also looks like there is a headset jack for monitoring your audio, however, you'll need an app that supports that feature. Apple's Voice Memo app, for example, does not.

The iRig Pre is expected to ship in Q2 2012 for $39.99. Below is video from CES which also shows off the recently announced iRig Mic Cast.
