HP challenges the iMac with a new 27-inch all-in-one PC.

January 4, 2012

Today, in advance of next week's CES show, HP introduced a new large-screen member of its Omni all-in-one PC line.

The Omni27 is built around a 27-inch LCD screen with full HD resolution. Since it's part of the Omni line, the system doesn't come with a touch screen: that's a feature for the TouchSmart line of HP PCs. The Omni27 is aimed at the more demanding users who require the extra screen real estate for projects like laying out blueprints or editing graphics. The large screen can also double as a video screen for viewing movies or TV programming.

The Omni27 can be equipped with an Intel processor, from the Core i3 2100 to the Core i7 2600S quad core. The system can hold 4 to 8GB of system memory, an optional Blu-ray drive, and a single hard drive from 500GB to 3TB in capacity.

The system comes standard with Intel HD 3000 graphics, but can be upgraded with discrete DX11 graphics solutions from AMD (Radeon HD 7450A/7650A) or Nvidia (GeForce 520M/540M). The Omni27 can be outfitted with USB 3.0, TV tuner, HDMI-in, and audio out ports to connect the system to other devices in a home office or den.

The Omni27 has a LED-backlit display, which is more environmentally friendly than the CCFL displays of older all-in-one PCs. Like HP's other high-end PCs, the Omni27 can be configured with Beats Audio and the HP Pulse subwoofer for enhanced sound reproduction.

The HP Omni27 will be available on Jan. 8, starting at a base price of $1,199.99.

Also today, several business-oriented display solutions and  of the HP HPE h9 Phoenix desktop PC made for power users and gamers.
