In advance of next week's CES show in Las Vegas, HP today announced the availability of the HP HPE h9 Phoenix desktop PC made for power users and gamers. It's got a similar design as the existing HP HPE desktops, but with a decidedly performance-oriented look.

Style-wise, the HPE h9 Phoenix bridges the gap between more sedate performance PCs (like the Dell XPS and HP HPE PCs) and the more boutique-looking PCs from system builders like Cyberpower. The HPE h9 has partial windows on the side panel, so you can see into the chassis. The system also has a more ribbed exterior so you won't mistake it for a plain multimedia PC. The system comes with copious red LED lighting, including the front panel and interior, drawing attention to itself. The front panel has a layered look, making the system stand out on the shelf and making it easy to find among the other performance PCs.

Built into a modified version of the HP HPE chassis, the HPE h9 Phoenix touts high performance features like mutli-core processors, four DIMM slots with a capacity of 16GB of DDR3 system memory, support for 250W graphics cards, up to three hard drives, options for SSD, top mounted USB 3.0 ports, HP Beats Audio, HP LinkUp software, 7.1 surround sound capability, and optional liquid cooling.

The HP HPE h9 Phoenix is expected to be available on Jan. 8 in the US, with a starting price of $1,149.99.
