IBM To Buy Green Hat

This article is more than 10 years old.

IBM this morning said it has agreed to acquire Green Hat, a provider of software quality and testing services for the cloud. Terms were not disclosed.

The company says that Green Hat, which has offices in London, England and Wilimington, Delaware, "helps customers improve the quality of software applications by enabling developers to leverage cloud computing technologies to conduct testing on a software application prior to its delivery."

Green Hat will become part of IBM's Rational Software unit.

Oh, and since you were wondering, here's Green Hat's explanation for why it has that name:

The title comes from Dr. Edward de Bono's Six Thinking Hats technique that enables teams to become more productive. Team members learn how to separate their thinking into six distinct categories. Each category is identified with its own colored metaphorical "thinking hat." By mentally wearing and switching one of six  "hats," members can focus efforts, thoughts and time around different aspects of the task in hand. For example, someone with the "White Hat" checks what factual information is required to help the decision process.

The "Green Hat" focuses on creativity: the possibilities, alternatives and new ideas. Just the kind of approach that our customers value and helps us address their testing challenges now and in the future.
