A rear-facing 'Smart Cover' for iPhone is handier than you might think

TidyTilt is a Smart Cover for your iPhone. Only it covers the back of the iPhone instead of the screen. And it requires you run a steel strip around the edge of the phone's rear panel. And–of course–it can't activate the iPhone's magnetic screen lock, because there isn't one.

Other than that, the TidyTilt is pretty neat. The tilt part of the name comes from the Smart-Cover-style stand: It rolls up into a triangular tube for propping the iPhone up any way your want (and because the magnets run around the entire edge of the TidyTilt, you can attach it to either side – try that with the Smart Cover).

The tidy part of the name comes from the earbud-wrangling abilities of the TidyTilt. You can either rip the case from the phone and use it as a wrap, or wrap your 'buds around the whole lot, flipping up the edges of the case to keep the cable from unravelling.

I'm a big fan of the iPad Smart Cover, even though it fails to protect the screen from scratches. And I'd also be interested in the TidyTilt's stainless-steel strip on its own, as it would let me stick my iPhone to the magnetic knife rack in the kitchen, out of the way of spills.

The TidyTilt comes in pink, green, blue and black, and can be pre-ordered for $19.
