iPhone, iPod Touch Users on iOS 3.1.3 Report Download Problems

Apple users running iOS 3.1.3 are reporting their iPhones and iPod touch devices can no longer download apps or update existing ones.

Apple users running iOS 3.1.3 are reporting their iPhones and iPod touch devices can no longer download apps or update existing ones.

"Whenever I go into a specific app in the app store, none of the buttons work properly," Apple user mwiesner wrote in the Apple forums on Friday.

Specifically, he said an app will not download once you click the price, the ratings button is inactive, and photos do not appear, among other things.

Apple support reportedly told those affected to simply update their operating system to iOS 4 or iOS 5, but many of these users have the or , neither of which support iOS 4. To get iOS 5, meanwhile, users need an , iPhone 4, or iPhone 4S.

Others, meanwhile, are restricted to iOS 3 by their places of work or preference.

"Just to tell you all that I'm using a 3G under 3.1.3, can't update it because of my company rules, and App Store is a broken link for me too (same issues as described before). I'm in France," wrote one user.

"I know...upgrade to OS 4.x....I would but everything I read says that the phone is basically useless after the upgrade as everything is too slooooooooow," wrote another.

Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Update: Engadget reports that Apple has fixed this issue, with users in the Apple support forums confirming.
