Dilbert creator Scott Adams has featured Apple’s iPhone 4S and Siri personal assistant technology in his comic strip today.
Apple gets much help, even from oblique mentions such as these, in terms of consumer education and marketing.
When Siri begins permeating into popular media and works perfectly (unlike the ill-fated Newton’s appearances in Doonesbury back in the 1990s), you know Apple has yet another hit on its hands.

Okay, now who gave pointy haired boss the iPhone? ‘Cause he sure wouldn’t get it himself.
The pointy haired boss seems more like an Android user . . . clueless.
The PHB is a _Blackberry_ user.
Or perhaps better to say “was.”
He thinks it’s a Blackberry. At least it’s some kind of fruit.
So much better than Doonesbury’s Newton.
MDN, I love Apple as much as anyone here, but to say that this is promoting Apple or Siri in the comic is incorrect. The informed Apple users here can conclude that he probably has an iPhone, but most people see it could be any smartphone.
Try that voice command with other smart phones and tell me which one “gets it”.
There is absolutely no doubt in reader’s mind about which phone is it. Keep in mind, people who read Dilbert are likely at least somewhat educated and informed. From the recent commercials about Siri, they will know that only iPhone has this (don’t forget the word-of-mouth tsunami going around, with daily demonstrations around the water cooler).
This is just another form of great free advertising.
The valid point you didn’t make is that Apple/iPhone 4S/Siri is not mentioned by name.
Unlike the Ellen show clips a week or two ago.
Those in the know, know. The others, well ain’t technological progress wonderful, but I don’t know much about it.
If it isn’t an iPhone it’s an iPhoney and the whole thing is fake
Cartoon was funny.
But I quit reading Dilbert awhile back because I just got sick of how much of a douche Scott Adams has turned into.
