Netflix Revamps iPad App to Improve Content Discovery

Netflix is rolling out an updated version of its iPad app, an attempt to boost the ease of content discovery on tablets.

Released Wednesday, the refreshed app highlights Netflix's expanding collection of streaming movies and TV shows "by displaying twice as many titles than the previous interface," according to Netflix product manager Zal Bilimoria. Further, the app is better optimized for touchscreen users: With larger icons representing video content, it's now easier to quickly scan through titles with a finger swipe.

It's an incremental update, mostly designed to make it easier for mobile device users to access content while on the go. Typically, the desktop version has been much more accessible than the mobile app, in part thanks to large-scale title artwork, and the ability to navigate menus with a mouse.

But as Netflix' online repository of content grows, targeting for mobile device users is key to the company's streaming strategy. The company updated its Android tablet app last month, and continues to add to its list of compatible Android devices.
