Report: 'All Hands' HP Meeting to Decide Fate of WebOS

Pre Central has said HP will hold a meeting to determine the fate of webOS today.

December 9, 2011

Friday could finally bring some conclusive news about the future of webOS. According to Pre Central, HP CEO Meg Whitman will hold an "all-hands" meeting this morning to determine the fate of the division.

The meeting will take place at 10:30am Pacific time, Pre Central said.

A similar report popped up last month when The Verge claimed HP . But HP has been tight-lipped about what, if anything, was decided in that rumored meeting.

If an announcement does come today, it would be in line with the timeline that Whitman divulged late last month in a conversation with French newspaper Le Figaro.

"We should announce our decision in the next two weeks," she said. "This is not an easy decision, because we have a team of 600 people which is in limbo. We need to have another operating system."

In August, HP discontinued support for webOS devices, , just 49 days after the tablet made its debut.

HP on Sunday will reportedly for the TouchPad, with the 16GB model selling for $99 and the 32GB version priced at $149. These TouchPads are said to be refurbished, rather than brand-new models. HP will also reportedly offer a $79 accessory bundle including a case, charging dock, and wireless keyboard. The devices will be posted on the HP eBay store starting at 7pm Eastern time this Sunday.
