Weather Live Brings Beautifully Detailed Weather Information To Your iPhone And iPad
Weather Live ($2.99) by Apalon is a beautiful way to get your weather information.
Yeah, I know what you’re probably thinking: “Another weather app? Don’t we have enough of those already?” In a literal sense, yes, but Weather Live proves to be much more than just “another weather app.” It’s alluring, informative, and best of all, accurate.
When you launch Weather Live, you’re greeted with a helpful overlay that will guide you to how things work in the app. It’s pretty self-explanatory for the most part, but there is a nice little feature that is included: you can dim or raise brightness of Weather Live by sliding your finger down or up. This brightness setting is only within the app itself – it will not affect your device’s overall brightness when outside of Weather Live.
To add the locations that are relevant to you, simply tap at the top left corner. To add a new location, tap on the “+” button. You can search by zip code or name, and the app will begin searching as you type, so results are displayed in real-time. Tap on a result to add it; you can add as many locations as you’d like. You can rearrange your locations however you’d like, but the first one is automatically the default (as signified by the Weather Live icon next to it).
Once your cities are added, you can go back to the actual weather screen. If multiple locations were saved, you can navigate between them by swiping the screen left and right. It’s simple and intuitive.
The default layout is Widget with All Details. This view will give you: current temperature, conditions (and a pretty icon representing it), date and time, humidity/precipitation/pressure/visibility information, wind direction and speed (noted by the compass), and an hourly and weekly forecast at the bottom.
Don’t like this view? There are four other ones that you can choose from. To access these other options, just tap on the black bar at the top that displays the current location information – there will be a settings icon (the gears). The settings will be split in two sections: Display and Layout.
Display will have options for temperature and distance units, showing a temperature on the app icon badge, and giving you an alert when the temperature passes zero. In addition to this, you can choose between 12h or 24h time formats, display the seconds, and have the local time. The option to adjust brightness is here too, with a toggle for the slide fingers option. The app can also auto-lock when your phone is plugged in or when it’s on battery, and a delay timer can be set too. This is great for when you want to have this app displayed on a docking station for the night.
Layout will give you a total of five options: Widget and Text Only. The widget options come with All Details, Short-term forecast, Long-term forecast, or current state only. These widget options will look similar to the default view, with some details cut out, depending on which one you choose.
The Text Only option is my favorite, personally. It will show off the detailed information in a cleaner interface that isn’t as cluttered as the widgets, and you will also be able to see the gorgeous animated background (representing the current weather) clearly. The bottom will have toggles for switching between the hourly and weekly forecasts as well.
The best part about the app is that it is actually accurate. While some other weather apps may be a few degrees off from Apple’s native weather information, Weather Live was actually spot-on. Color me impressed.
The app works as advertised, looks nice and clean, and is very informative and detailed. It would be a great way to display the weather, date, and time on your desk or nightstand.
