Apple Reportedly Mulls Big Oregon Data Center

This article is more than 10 years old.

Apple is nearing a decision on whether to build a large data center on a 160-acre site in rural Prineville, Oregon, according to the Web site Oregon Live, citing "two people with direct knowledge of Apple's plans." The new site is quarter mile from a Facebook server farm that opened last year.

Oregon has increasingly been a draw for large data center projects, the story notes, due to a mild climate and low power cost - and valuable tax breaks.

The story said that the main hurdle for the site is whether or not it has access to sufficient power.

Apple's new site would be in addition to a $1 billion data center the company recently opened in North Carolina.
