Apple’s Govt. Sales VP Leaves

Ron Police, Apple’s vice president in charge of sales to the government, left the company in October, according to a report from Bloomberg. Mr. Police had held the position since 2004, and he has been credited with greatly improving Apple’s government sales.

The reason for his departure is not known, nor has Apple announced a replacement. Bloomberg cited a single unnamed source for the story, and Apple declined to comment. Mr. Police’s Linked-In profile no longer lists Apple as his employer, though his Facebook profile does.

Sales to both the enterprise and government markets have historically been far below the company’s Wintel-based competitors. In recent years, however, Apple has found its iPhones and iPads gaining significant positions in many of the top companies in the U.S. Macs, too, have seen an increase in sales in these markets on the coattails of the company’s iOS line.

Apple has a long way to go, however, and this is especially true in the realm of government sales. That makes Mr. Police’s replacement an important position for the Cupertino company.

Shares in AAPL moved higher Thursday, ending the day at $387.93, up $5.73 (+1.50%), on moderate volume of 13.8 million shares trading hands.
