Ticonderoga analyst Brian White reports the iPhone 4S is about to go on sale in China on China Unicom.
Here's the key bit from his note this morning:
China's iPhone 4S Launch on the Horizon. Additionally, we believe Apple's new iPhone 4S will launch in China in the coming weeks and most likely during the month of December with China Unicom (CHU, $21.57, NR), along with Apple retail stores and authorized resellers. We expect to see Apple fever on display throughout the country with long lines, stock outs and scuffles. In the coming months, we expect China Telecom (CHA, $61.88, NR) to be added to the iPhone for the first time. Keep in mind, China's 3G subscriber base reached 110 million in October and total wireless subscribers totaled nearly 952 million. China has become an increasingly important growth drive for Apple and the company generated 16% of September quarter sales from Greater China (i.e., Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong) or $4.5 billion in revenue (up 270% Y/Y) versus just 2% of sales in FY09.
