How to Fix Chrome's Checkboxes and Buttons in macOS Mojave

It’s a pretty specific issue, but an annoying one. If you’re playing around with the latest public beta for Apple’s macOS Mojave—as of when we wrote this article—and you’re a big fan of Chrome, you might have wondered where your checkboxes and (some) website buttons have gone.

Try it. Go to any website that prompts you to check this or that in order to sign up for an account, and you’ll find that you can’t actually see said checkboxes. You can click on the approximate area where they are, and the selection will register, you just won’t be able to see it. It’s an annoying issue, at best, but it does make it tough to use some sites—unless you like clicking around everywhere in the hopes that you’ve checked said box.

There are two quick fixes for this head-scratching issue. First, you can install this extension, which should bring back checkboxes and buttons everywhere. Just remember to remove it once macOS Mojave (or Chrome) fixes the issue, because it’s always good to keep your browser extensions organized.

If you don’t feel like fussing with that, the second fix is even easier: Hold down Command and hit the plus or minus key on your keyboard. You’ll shrink or embiggen the website you’re viewing, which magically restores everything.

In case you’re curious, this only appears to be a Chrome issue at the moment. Both Firefox and Safari render checkboxes and buttons correctly—at least, for every site I tested.
