Cue The Fireworks - iOS 11.4.1 Public Beta 5 Released For Those That Aren't Testing iOS 12

It's OK, really it is. Some people like PB&J on white bread. Some people prefer vanilla to chocolate. And really, the sooner the world realizes that flat water is better than carbonated, the better. You don't need memojis or measuring apps or screentime usage data. A good old fashioned, stable bug fix is good enough for you.

Joking aside, if you're one of the heroes that are determined to see iOS 11.4.1 to the bitter end, Public Beta 5 should be available now (or sometime later today) for you to test. Open your Settings app and go to General > Software Update to download the latest. As has been the case with previous iOS 11.4.1 builds, there are no release notes. This is a strictly internal bug fix.

The Future of iOS 11

Most likely, this will be the last release of this beta cycle (though the release isn't designated as a golden master). Once the bugs are squashed, Apple will dedicate its resources fully to iOS 12 development, with no further iOS 11 releases between now and September (unless there's an emergency security fix needed).

How To Start Beta Testing

Unfortunately, unless you already have an iOS 11 beta profile, you can't use Apple's beta site to start beta testing iOS 11.4.1. The Public Beta Program at https://beta.apple.com/ now only has iOS 12 beta profiles available for download. Incidentally, if you want to switch over, I've got you covered.

If you were previously on the iOS 11 beta, however, but just deleted your old beta profile, there is one way to jump back on board. Wipe your iDevice and restore from an archived backup that contains the iOS 11 beta profile (you should have a backup as long as you've followed my How To Install Apple Public Betas guide).

I imagine the expectation from Apple is that most, if not all of their Public Beta Program testers will transition to iOS 12 soon (or delete their beta profiles while they wait for a more stable iOS 12 beta release). Wrapping up the past 12 months of iOS 11 beta testing.

But if Apple surprises me, I'll be sure to let you know. In the meantime, see how the iOS 12 beta is shaping up. I'll have more on that (and my favorite new features and apps) soon!
