How to Control Alexa Using Your iPhone

In January Amazon added voice controls to its Android app, and this week it finally did the same for iPhone owners.

Now if you have the app installed it can handle the same commands you might give to an Echo device. For instance, you can ask your iPhone for a flash briefing or to turn on the lights in your living room.

Unlike built-in smart assistants, using Alexa on your iPhone requires you to have the app open, you can’t just yell at your phone like you can an Echo. Instead, you have to press a button (that one in the middle) within the app to wake the smart assistant up before asking her for what you want.

For random trivia questions it probably still makes sense to use Siri rather than Alexa for answers. However, if you have Alexa hooked up to your smart home, then this could give you another way to control things in places where you might not have an Echo.
