A first look at the Podcasts app on Apple Watch in watchOS 5

Podcasts Apple Watch

Ever since the first Apple Watch was launched in 2015, folks have been clamoring for an official Podcasts app for the wearable device. With watchOS 5, that request is finally going to become a reality. Here’s a brief look at what you can do with the Podcasts app on Apple Watch.

The Podcasts app for Apple Watch offers lots of useful features.

For all users, you can stream your favorite titles from the Apple Watch directly to your AirPods. Better still, Apple understands that you might not want to listen to your entire podcast on your Apple Watch. Because of this, the new feature supports syncing across all your Apple devices. In other words, you can pick up a podcast on one device while finishing it on another.

If you have an Apple Watch Series 3 LTE, you can download your favorite podcasts for offline use. Yes, this means you can leave your iPhone at home and still listen about the topics facing the world today.

This isn’t the only Podcast news from Apple. The iOS Podcasts app has also be updated in iOS 12 to include Podcasts chapters. Chapters are especially useful for longer episodes, or when you’re trying to find specific content to share. This feature, however, is only available when it’s supported by the specific podcast.

Other watchOS 5 features include a walkie-talkie tool, updated Control Center settings, and new exercise challenges. The update also features an improved Siri Watch face.

We’ll take a closer look at the Podcasts app for Apple Watch once we get closer to the watchOS 5 release date. Both watchOS 5 and iOS 12 are likely to be released in September around the same time Apple reveals the 2018 Apple Watch and iPhones lineups.
