At Mobile Reviews Eh!, we do reviews based on actual usage. We do tests and use the products for days and maybe weeks. If you like how we do our reviews, please consider buying the products on the links scattered on this article.

For this particular review, Evolutive Labs sent us the cases. However, the review isn’t sponsored by them. Or the iPhone that may or may not have broken.

Design

Rhinoshield SolidSuit review - MOD SolidSuit, and Crashguard difference

The design of the Rhinoshield SolidSuit is quite similar to the RhinoShield MOD and Crashguard. In fact, the edges of the case are almost identical.

The biggest difference between the Rhinoshield SolidSuit and MOD and Crashgaurd on the other hand is the material on the back of the case. Your choices include a normal plastic back, several different wood backs, a carbon fibre back, a leather back and our personal favourite, the microfibre cloth back.

Rhinoshield cases are made from a material called ShockSpread which isnʼt your normal run of the mill TPU. According to Evolutive Labs, their material is slim and tough. This means that their cases are going to be smaller and lighter than similar cases like the Catalyst Impact Protection and Mous Limitless.

We know that Evolutive Labs are quite proud of ShockSpread since they have been talking about it for years now. We do have to point out that their product doesnʼt contain BPAʼs, BPSʼs or BPFʼs. If you’re unaware, these three are considered harmful products. Prior to this review, we cared about radiation but now we care about the toxins in our cases as well!

Rhinoshield SolidSuit review - BPA free sticker

The Rhinoshield SolidSuit in general wonʼt add a lot of bulk to your iPhone. This is nice given the amount of protection Rhinoshield SolidSuit will offer.

The Rhinoshield SolidSuit fits tightly around the iPhone and is actually quite hard to take off which is a good thing. The buttons on the case are customizable and arenʼt loose despite not being physically being attached to the case,

If youʼre looking to differentiate your iPhone slightly , get a set of coloured buttons when you order the Rhinoshield SolidSuit. We actually prefer the tiny pops of color rather than the over-the-top designs of other build your own case products.

We know that case manufacturers will spend a lot of time trying to get the buttons right on their cases. From our understanding, this is an iterative process that requires manufacturers to slowly adjust the molds used in TPU cases. They thin out that area until they are happy with the response.

Lately, weʼve seen lots of companies remove parts of the case to ensure that the buttons fit better. An example of this would be the buttons on the Mous Limitless. The buttons are close but arenʼt the same. None of them have figured out what Evolutive Labs has done with the buttons on their products.

Mous Limitless

Our biggest complaint with the Rhinoshield SolidSuit is that the edges are a little slick for our liking. We generally have dry hands so cases tend to slip out of our hand easily. The Rhinoshield SolidSuit does have a matte texture on the edges but itʼs not enough . With the Rhinoshield SolidSuit, our fingers tend to spend a lot of time along the case edge where the Rhinoshield stamp is and the two holes for the wrist strap.

The handling of the Rhinoshield SolidSuit will also be affected by the material you chose on the back. The carbon fibre back from our perspective offers the most texture for your hands followed by the Microfibre case. The leather cases arenʼt too bad with the normal and wood cases offering the least amount of texture.

The wear and tear of the case isnʼt better or worse when compared to other Evolutive products. The plastic will show signs of wear and tear depending on where you drop it. The sidewalk in front of our home will leave some nasty scuff marks on the case. The case below is the case we used for all our drop and hammer test. The case doesn’t look terrible.

Functionality

Rhinoshield SolidSuit review - Buttons

The button response makes accessing your iPhone inside the Rhinoshield SolidSuit, great. In fact, the buttons are so great it feels like there isnʼt a case at all. The mute switch is easily accessible through the larger than average cutout and the Lighting cable cutout is large enough for whatever 3rd party cable you plan on using.

The camera is also uninhibited and can be used with the iPhone X Lens Adapter like the Rhinoshield MOD. Personally, if youʼre looking to get one lens, get the wide-angle 0.6x lens.

Protection

For screen protection, the lip of the Rhinoshield SolidSuit is quite high. The lip will keep your screen off a flat surface. However, drops on uneven surfaces will still be an issue. If you need the extra screen protection, go with the Impact Protection screen protector. With the Impact Protection screen protector your iPhone is going to be nearly indestructible. If you donʼt need the extra protection of the Impact Protection, the 9H Tempered glass screen protector is a decent choice as well. The best part with these screen protectors is they are an edge to edge screen protector that will most definitely fit with the Rhinoshield SolidSuit case.

When it comes to drop protection, ShockSpread is pretty tough. We already did a lot more extensive drops with Rhinoshield MOD and the case took a lot of hit. Rhinoshield SolidSuit is basically the same but is a little tougher due to it’s size.

Rhinoshield SolidSuit review drop test

Instead of the drop test, we decided to do a different test for the Rhinoshield SolidSuit. We decided to hammer the iPhone inside the Rhinoshield SolidSuit multiple times.

During these tests, we realized that thereʼs a satisfying “thud” with every impact. Most cases have a higher sound but the Rhinoshield SolidSuit and MOD have a duller thud. It actually sounds tougher.

The iPhone did bend slightly with the hammering. There was a part of us expecting to see the iPhone X survive. However, we’re not really fussed since an average person would definitely not repeatedly cause, heavy impacts against the same part of the Rhinoshield SolidSuit.

Our only gripe with the Rhinoshield SolidSuit is the texture of the cases. But given how tough the Rhinoshield SolidSuit is, you can afford to drop it a few more times.
