Pokémon Quest, a new free-to-play game from The Pokémon Company, is now available to preorder on iOS.

The game will make its official debut on June 28, offering exactly the same experience that Nintendo Switch owners have been enjoying since late May.

Pokémon Quest isn’t your typical Pokémon game. It’s an expedition RPG that takes place on Tumblecube Island, a cube-shaped world filled with cube-shaped Pokémon (think Minecraft), where your mission is to uncover hidden goodies during Pokémon battles.

All of your favorite Pokémon from the original Red and Blue versions of the game are available, but catching them is an entirely new process that requires no Poké Balls.

Pokémon Quest is a brand new Pokémon game

You’ll start out with one Pokémon — Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle — and you’ll enter battles all over the island that reward you with hidden items for winning.

Some items make your Pokémon stronger; others make them more powerful. But most of the items you earn will be cooking ingredients, which you’ll use to attract more Pokémon to your base camp on Tumblecube Island.

Combine different ingredients to cook dishes that will attract different Pokémon types and build a unique team that will help you tackle tougher battles and unlock better items.

As you complete all levels in each area, you will also be rewarded with camp decorations. Each one has its advantages, like increasing the number of items you earn during a battle.

Pokémon Quest is free-to-play

Pokémon Quest is a must-play for any Pokémon fan. I’ve been having a lot of fun with it on Switch over the past few weeks. It’s not what we’re used to from Pokémon games, but it’s a lot of fun nonetheless, and it’s great for mobile play in short, 10-minute stints.

The best thing about Pokémon Quest is that it’s completely free-to-play (even on the Switch). In-app purchases will be available for unique items and additional Pokémon Tickets, but you don’t need them. The game can be completed without paying a penny.

Preorder Pokémon Quest through the App Store now and it will be downloaded to your iOS device automatically when the game makes its debut on June 28.
