Burglars swipe $100K in Apple products from Best Buy without touching floor

Burglars are wanted for swiping $100,000 in Apple products from a Best Buy in Georgia – all without touching the ground in the stunning “Mission: Impossible”-like heist, police said.

Police in Dunwoody told WSB-TV that the suspects rappelled through a hole in the ceiling of a Best Buy on Hammond Drive and made off with the trove of Apple products while dangling from ropes.

“It’s a bizarre case,” Dunwoody Police Sgt. Robert Parsons told the station.

The crime seemed to rip a page from the screenplay of the 1996 Tom Cruise film, in which the actor rappels into a room full of sensors to extract data from a computer without touching the floor.

Once inside the store, the suspects — at least two or three — managed to get into a storage room and scooped up every Apple product in their reach, Parsons said.

“iPhones, iPads, MacBooks – all those Apple products had been removed from a secure storage area,” Parsons told the station.

Investigators are looking into whether the sophisticated heist is connected to similar burglaries in Texas and Florida. Police were struggling to find surveillance video of the suspects because there was no video from where the theft occurred inside, WSB-TV reports.

A customer outside the store told the station he wasn’t surprised that Apple products were specifically targeted.

“People love Apple,” the unidentified man told the station. “The last time I was in San Francisco someone actually broke into my car, they took all my Apple gear. Just Apple gear, nothing else.”

Another customer said she was blown away by the apparent difficulty of pulling off such a brazen theft.

“My God, they are getting that good?” the woman said. “Mind blown.”

Messages seeking additional comment from Best Buy representatives were not immediately returned.
