So boring, you'll chuck your iPhone at Tim Cook.

Are you looking for performance enhancements? Siri suggestions? Shortcuts? Third party navigation in CarPlay? Sorry, you're looking for iOS 12, which you can find...well...nowhere yet, unless you're a developer.

For the rest of us in the Public Beta Program, we get the honor (?) of testing the least interesting iOS 11 release ever, iOS 11.4.1. Public Beta 1 was released a couple of weeks ago with minimal (read no) fanfare. It doesn't even get external-facing release notes. On the plus side, it will be the last build of iOS 11 (unless some emergency bug fix comes along before iOS 12 is released). As a result, it will be the most stable version of iOS 11 yet.

What to Expect With iOS 11.4.1

The second Public Beta hasn't revealed any new surprises. This version of iOS is strictly for Apple developers to finally kill the last lingering bugs of iOS 11 and keep consumers humming along until iOS 12 is released later this year.

When Do We Get iOS 12?

How does this affect the iOS 12 beta? Developers have access to the first beta build right now. The second developer release will be the first Public Beta build. We could see that next week, but more likely it's going to be the week after. I doubt iOS 11.4.1 will have wrapped up by then (it'd be an exceptionally short beta cycle), so I'll give you a rundown on how to switch to a different beta build when that happens.

In the meantime, now's as good of a time as any for a quick refresher on how this whole Public Beta Test program works.

How To Start Beta Testing

Need to get signed up? Head over to https://beta.apple.com/ and sign in with your enrolled Apple ID (or create a beta account if you don't have one already) and follow the steps. You should also check out my How To Install Apple Public Betas guide for a walkthrough as well as helpful reminders of things to watch out for when beta testing.

If you're ready to get off the beta train, you can do that too. Just delete your beta profile and await the next round.

I'll see you back here next week for more iOS 11.4.1 news. As soon as the iOS 12 Public Beta drops, I'll let you know!
