Even Apple believes it might be time for a digital detox. The technology giant will break new ground this week when it unveils software to help wean people off their devices.

The initiative, Digital Health, will help consumers monitor and limit the time spent on iPhones and tablets. The move reflects concern about the impact excessive use of devices and social media can have on wellbeing.

Tim Cook, Apple’s chief executive, said earlier this year that he did not want his young nephew to be on a social network. He also suggested people should limit time on their mobile phones.
