How to watch sports and get live scores in Apple’s TV app

One of the least publicized features on both iPhone and Apple TV is the ability to watch sports and get live scores in Apple’s TV app. Here’s how you can catch up with your favorite sports and teams 365 days a year.

Finding sports scores on iPhone and iPad

On iOS devices, you can find sports listings on the TV app’s main Watch Now page and under the Sports tab.

Watch Sports

On the latter:

  1. At the top of the screen, you’ll see a listing of the hottest current games in sports. This might include playoff games, rivalry games, and more
  2. Under What’s On you’ll find a list of current and upcoming sporting events in chronological order

On the former, the listings are located after the What to Watch section, although its position on the app does sometimes change.

  1. Under Watch Now, scroll down to the Sports section, either in portrait or landscape mode
  2. For all the listings, click on the See All link
  3. Scroll to find the sports event you’d like to watch
  4. Click on the listing
  5. On the next page, you’ll find more information on the event, including its location and channel listing. The event will include either a Live or + Up Next button, depending on whether the game is currently on the air
  6. Click on Live to begin watching the game
  7. If you click + Up Next, the listing will show up at the top of the “Watch Now” page once the event is live

On Apple TV

On Apple TV, sports scores and video content are found in similar locations on the TV app. Under the Sports page on the TV app:

Adding your favorite teams

Regardless of platform, you can add your favorite teams to the TV app.

  1. On the Sports page, find the link for Your Favorite Teams.
  2. You’ll see a listing for each supported leagues including MLB, NFL, NBA, and more.
  3. Click on a league and then select the + next to your favorite team
  4. Back up to pick teams from the same or other leagues
  5. When you’re finished, you’ll see your teams at the top of Your Favorite Teams page.

By adding your favorites, games featuring those teams will go to the top of the listings under both the Watch Now and Sports tabs.

What about those live scores?

When a sporting event is live, you’ll see live scores, when applicable, on both the Watch TV and Sports screens. This makes it simple to see how teams are doing in real-time.

In the TV app, sports scores are on by default. If you’d rather not know the score, you can turn them off. On iOS, go into the Settings app under TV. On this page, turn off the toggle next to Show Sports Scores.

Please note: Scores don’t show up for all sports.

Favorite Pastime

You can always find sports scores and content from your favorite teams on iOS and Apple TV. Whether you’re into the NFL, MLB, NBA, or something with fewer viewers like the LMX and WNBA, Apple’s TV app has you covered.
