Apple, Again, Grows Its California Self-driving Fleet, It Has the Second Biggest Fleet (Updated)
It seems that Apple grows its fleet of self-driving test cars. Apple has, again, expanded Its fleet of autonomous cars in California.
Apple Apple now has 55 vehicles and 83 drivers under its permit to test autonomous vehicles, the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) said in an emailed response to questions.
Apple originally registered three vehicles. Apple grew from 3 to 45 between April 2017 and March 2018, now this number increased to 55.
UPDATE: Apple has the second highest number of self driving cars after GM Cruise,which as 104 vehicles, as of now. Here are the numbers:
1-GM Cruise: 104 vehicles and 407 drivers
2-Apple: 55 vehicles and 83 drivers
3-Waymo: 51 vehicles and 338 drivers
4-Tesla: 39 vehicles and 92 drivers
5-Drive.Ai: 14 vehicles and 10 drivers
6-Zoox Inc: 12 vehicles and 71 drivers
7-NIO USA: 11 vehicles and 19 drivers
8-Toyota Research Institute: 11 vehicles and 16 drivers.
There are 409 total self driving cars and 1573 drivers.
We also learned from the DMV that Apple has not applied for a driverless testing permit. The DMV has recently began issuing driverless testing permits in April, 2018
Apple and DMV officials have met four times since 2015.
As of May 10, 2018, there are 53 Autonomous Vehicle Testing Permit holders in California.
