The next-gen iPhone SE model is coming this year, but according to a new report, you’re going to be waiting for it for a while!
Unlike the original iPhone SE, which debuted March 21, 2016, its iPhone SE 2 follow-up is reportedly going to debut around September. That means that it will be one of four iPhones that Apple will debut in late Q3.
The report claims that production on the handset has yet to begin, and that Apple has not even decided on a finished design for the phone just yet. However, regardless of which design Apple opts for, all prototypes supposedly have one thing in common. This is the fact that they will offer Face ID and have no Touch ID sensor included in their design.
That would mean Apple finally ditching the 2012-era iPhone 5 design for good.
Other reports have previously supported this theory by saying that the new phone includes a glass back — just like that on the iPhone 8 and iPhone X series — which will be used for wireless charging.
While we imagine that most customers would be happy to have Apple’s top-of-the-line facial recognition and wireless charging tech, this doesn’t exactly fit with Apple’s concept of a lower priced iPhone.
In addition to an iPhone SE 2, Apple is reported to be this year releasing a 6.1-inch LCD iPhone, a 5.8-inch OLED iPhone X 2, and a 6.5-inch iPhone X Plus. Add that to the (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, and that means a whopping six new models of iPhone this year!
