Microsoft, VMware and Dell are joining forces to offer a mutually designed IoT (internet of things) solution, that can accelerate the adoption of IoT services.
To design the joint solution, the companies will integrate their existing IoT solutions— Microsoft Azure IoT Edge, VMware Pulse IoT Center, and Dell Edge Gateways.
The aim of the new IoT solution is to centralize the monitoring and security from devices to cloud, and streamline the management of connected devices. It will be specifically useful for the customers who deploy IoT for a number of circumstances such as supply chain visibility, and predictive maintenance.
Microsoft Azure IoT Edge solution focuses on bringing cloud intelligence to the edge, allowing devices to leverage the cloud and machine learning at scale.

VMware Pulse IoT Center offers enterprise-grade management and monitoring for edge devices, and is a more secure solution.

Dell Edge Gateways is built with dual-core Intel Atom processors. It offers high-performance for connecting wired and wireless devices to analyze inputs and send data to cloud.

This collaboration will enable customers to implement IoT more seamlessly, for better and faster ROI,” said Chris Wolff, head of OEM and IOT GTM, Dell EMC.
The VMware Pulse IoT Center will work as a glue to bind the hardware, connected sensors and devices of Dell Gateway, with Microsoft Azure IoT Edge. It will enable intelligence so that these devices can act locally and easily coordinate with each other.
Although the joint solution is optimized for Dell Edge Gateway, the companies said, it can also be used to manage, monitor and secure certified combination of edge and gateways from other providers as well.

The new IoT solution is expected to be available in the second half of 2018.
